Boyd Lake
As well as the two state parks in Denver, we spent a week up at Boyd Lake State Park. This would give us the opportunity to paddle board on the lake (which was harder than usual with the wake boarders screaming past). We also celebrated my 40th birthday by visiting some breweries in nearby Loveland. Our RV site was "electric only" so it gave us practice using less water and sewer. All showers and most toilet runs were to the campground bathrooms.
!!Campground Showers
This lead to a good learning experience. In this state park, you pay for showers (75c for 3 minutes, then 25c per minute after). Julia (surprisingly) was able to get her shower all done in less than 3 mins. Pauls first attempt at showering was a little comical. After inserting the 75c in to start the water, rinse, and lather up pretty good the water stopped. Adding an additional quarter doesn't add another minute. That "25c per minute thereafter" needs to be inserted while the water is still running. With no change left, an awkward, soapy shuffle across the bathroom to the change machine was performed.
Pauls challenge the next day was to beat the shower. Before dropping the coins in the body wash container was open and ready. Then. Ready.. Set.. Go. Drop in the coins in .. quick rinse, soap, rinse, soap, rinse and done! All in about a minute (which left 2 minutes to enjoy standing under the running water). On my way back our neighbors were ribbing Paul for having two showers in two days until they learned the issue. When they found out it was Paul's 40th birthday we came home to find an envelope on our door with a happy birthday note and some quarters for a "birthday shower"! Made our day.
Chatfield
!!Chatfield State Park
Chatfield State Park was our favourite. Only a few miles south of our house it felt like a world away from the city. It helped us get into a routine. Wake up... coffee and breakfast... walk the cats... go for a run... get stuff done... come home... walk the cats... cook dinner... watch the sunset! It didn't take too long for us to settle into this rhythm.
Chatfield was also where Grissom developed his obsession with rabbits. They were everywhere around the campsite and Grissom couldn't stop staring at them. He didn't really hunt them, I think he was just trying to process whether they were other cats with long ears or something stranger!
